Has anyone else ever had this happen?

You're making dinner...
Driving home...
Finally sitting down to relax...

And then your brain suddenly says,

"Don't forget to send that email."
Or...
"I still need to call that client."

Or my personal favourite...
"There's something I'm forgetting..." 😅

For the longest time, I thought being organized meant having a really good memory.
Now I know better.

Our brains are incredible problem-solvers.
They're creative.
They're curious.
They connect ideas.

But they're TERRIBLE filing cabinets!

Every time you ask your brain to "remember" something later, it has to keep carrying it around in the background. One reminder becomes five. Five become twenty.
It's exhausting.

One of the best habits I've ever developed wasn't improving my memory, it was learning not to rely on it.

If something matters, write it down.
If it has a deadline, put it in the calendar.
If it's a task, get it on the list.

The moment it's captured somewhere your brain gets permission to let it go.

It's such a small shift, but it's made a huge difference. And not just in my work, but in how my days feel.

Maybe your brain doesn't need to remember more.

Maybe it just needs to carry less.

I recently found myself smiling over something that, a year ago, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about.

A Google review.

Not because it's a magic number. Not because it changes my business overnight. But because behind every review is a person who took a few minutes out of their day to say, "Your work mattered."

As someone who spends most of her days behind the scenes, I don't often get to see the impact of what I do. My work is usually quieter than that... organizing the chaos, solving the little problems before they become big ones, keeping businesses moving, and helping good people breathe just a little easier.

A review is one of the few moments where that quiet work becomes visible.

It reminded me that small businesses aren't built on giant marketing budgets. They're built on trust. On relationships. On people who choose to support each other in ways that don't always cost a thing.

So today I'm simply grateful.

Grateful for every client who has trusted me, every person who has referred my name, and every review that will remind me this little business I'm building is making a difference.

Sometimes the smallest gestures carry the biggest encouragement.

– Amy 💙

One email.

That's all it took. 😄

I was working on a project for one of my clients when I saw an email from them had popped into my inbox.
I thought, "I'll just take care of this quickly while I'm already working on their file."

Makes sense, right?
Except that one email led to another task... which led to another question...

Before I knew it, I was trying to remember where I'd left off on the project I'd been working on in the first place.

It's one of the reasons I've started turning off notifications when I'm deep into a project.

Not because I don't want to respond...
But because I'd rather finish one thing really well before jumping to the next.

It's funny how one "quick" interruption can quietly steal your focus.

There's one little task in my calendar...

I've moved it to tomorrow.
Every day.....for over a week.
Don't judge.

The funny part?
It's not for a client.
It's for me!🫣

And somehow, that makes it easier to push to tomorrow when something else comes up.

Clients come first.
Deadlines come first.
Emails come first.

My own little twenty-minute task?
Apparently, Future Amy can deal with it. 😂

Something tells me I'll finally get it done this week... and then wonder why I didn't just do it ten days ago.

If you're a business owner, I'm willing to bet you've got one of those things sitting on your list too.

A little note from my desk...

This week I spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to improve my internet connection.
I adjusted settings and tested things numerous times, trying to figure out out how I can make my work life easier.

Then it hit me, why not try an ethernet cable.? (yes these things still exist!)

One cable later, everything was noticeably better.

Sometimes I laugh at myself. We get so used to doing things a certain way that we completely overlook the simplest option.

Anyway... if anyone needs me, I'll be over here wondering what other obvious things I've forgotten over the years. 😉

Four versions of the same document.

Final
Final 2
Final FINAL
Final - Use This One
😂
That was part of my afternoon.
Truth be told... I've been guilty of it too.

When you're busy, renaming a file properly feels like a problem for "future you."
Then future you spends fifteen minutes opening every version trying to figure out which one is actually the right one.

I think my favourite is when there's also a file called "Old."
Old compared to what? 😄

It's funny how the smallest things can quietly steal the most time.

That's the kind of stuff I notice because I spend my days working behind the scenes in other people's businesses. Not the big, dramatic problems... just the little ones that slowly chip away at your day.

Anyway....back to work!

Now tell me... what's the funniest file name you've ever created?

Confession time...

Most business owners don't realize how much time they spend on admin work until they actually track it.

That "quick email" turns into twenty.
A few calendar changes become an hour.
A couple of follow-ups become your entire afternoon.

Before you know it, the work that grows your business has been pushed to tomorrow. Again.

As a Virtual Assistant, I see this all the time.

The goal isn't to be busy.
The goal is to spend your time on the things only YOU can do.

So I'm curious...

What's the one administrative task you would happily hand off tomorrow if you could?
