CONFESSIONS OF OUR CLIENTS – PART 8

The strangest thing this client moved wasn't furniture.

It wasn't a TV.
It wasn't a fridge.

It was a feeling.

Let me explain.

We had just finished unloading everything into the new house.

The boxes were inside.
The bed was assembled.
The movers were ready to leave.

Then the client looked around and said:

"You know what's funny?"

We waited.

At first we laughed.

Then we realized he was serious.

Overthinking.

Because tell me why someone can confidently decide to move houses at 11PM after landlord pressure, then suddenly become a philosopher while packing cups.

One client recently sat on a carton at midnight and said:

“Bro… adulthood is just relocating stress from one apartment to another.”

The whole house went silent.

Even the movers had to process that statement.

And honestly?

Night moving hits differently in Nairobi.

That’s when you start finding strange things:

- one missing sock from 2021
- old photos
- receipts from places you can’t even afford anymore
- chargers for phones that died during Uhuru’s presidency

Then suddenly nostalgia enters the room for no reason.

But the funniest thing about moving at night?

Neighbours become FBI agents.

Curtains moving.
Balconies full.
Everyone pretending not to watch.

Yet by morning the entire apartment knows:

who fought,

Moving houses in Nairobi can humble you very fast.

One minute you’re feeling organised… next minute your TV remote is inside a sufuria and nobody knows how it got there.

And please, if you’re planning to move soon, avoid this Kenyan habit of saying: “Tutapack vitu mwisho mwisho.”

That’s how you end up carrying socks in paper bags and searching for toothpaste at 1AM like a missing person investigation.

Here’s one moving tip most people ignore:

Label. Your. Boxes.

Trust me.

There’s a special type of stress that comes from opening 14 boxes looking for one charger.

Also, muhimu sana: Don’t wait until moving day ndio uanze calling movers.

Especially in Nairobi where traffic behaves like a toxic relationship these days.

Plan mapema. Declutter. Keep valuables separately. And hydrate because moving day si mchezo.

But the funniest thing about moving?

You’ll discover items you haven’t seen since Uhuru’s first term.

We thought it was going to be a normal moving day.

You know…

someone shouting “careful hapo,”
the usual moving chaos.

Everything was smooth until one of the guys quietly called us from the corner of the house.

Not screaming.

Just…
“Guys, kuja hapa pole pole.”

We walked over thinking maybe it was fragile glass or something expensive.

Kumbe…

There was a pet snake chilling calmly inside a secure enclosure like it also pays rent in that house.

For almost ten seconds nobody moved.

Even the snake looked confused why we were acting dramatic.

Meanwhile the owner was completely relaxed:
“Don’t worry, it’s harmless.”

Harmless to who exactly?

But honestly, moments like these remind us something important:

Every client has a different lifestyle, different memories, different things they care about.

And our job is simple:
Handle every move professionally and respectfully.

No exposing private details.
No judgment.
Just trust.

Still… I won’t lie.

That snake had the entire moving crew behaving like disciplined church members for the rest of the day.
