Agilocity aims to change the world of Management by introducing the Management 3 model to Agile learners, enthusiasts and organizations. The '3' indicates the direction Management as a discipline is moving into in this 21st Century. In Management 1 we dealt with Hierarchies, command and control methods, top down management. Those at the bottom usually have little money, no say in the direction of
the organization and have litle or no motivation. I associate this with the Industrial Revolution Era (18th - 19th Century). Management 2 was the era of Fads. This is where people started realizing that Management 1 does not work out-of-the-box, so they put add ons on top of Management 1, like Balanced ScoreCard, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints and Total Quality Management. These models assume that the organization is being managed from the top down, and they help those at the top better 'design' their organizations. I asoociate this style with
Management 3 represents the era of Complexity. Complexity theory has been used extensively in the fields of strategic management and organizational studies. It is used to understand how a firm adapts to it's environment. The theory treats organizations and firms as collections of strategies and structures. When the organization or firm shares the properties of other complex adaptive systems - which is often defined as consisting of a small number of relatively simple and partially connected structures - they are more likely to adapt to their environment and, thus, survive. Complexity-theoretic thinking has been present in strategy and organizational studies since their inception as academic disciplines. Stephen Hawking thought it was so important that he called the 21st Century the "Century of Complexity". All organizations comprise of many networks. Social complexity shows us that management is primarily about people and their relationships, not about departments and profits. We can refer to these systems as complex living entities. Every organization natuarally has velocity, and we at Agilocity will guide that velocity into the direction of creative solutions provision by applying the Management 3 principles of advanced Agile Management. At Agilocity we focus on teaching Management 3 techniques to ScumMasters, Development Managers, Testers, Development Team Leads and Project Managers (wanting to go Agile), CEO's and business. This includes topics like: Why things aren't Simple, Agile Software development, Complexity Theory, Information Innovation, Energizing People, Self-Organization, Empowering Teams, Leading and Ruling, Alligning Constrains, Craft that is Rulemaking, Developing Compotence, Communication, Growing Structure, Managing Change and Continuous Improvement.
