🐾 MuttMix Reveal – Gorgeous Foxy ❤️
Sometimes a dog's name turns out to be absolutely perfect. Meet Foxy ❤️
With her alert ears, intelligent eyes, scruffy coat, and unmistakable woodland-charm appearance, it's easy to see how she earned her name. In fact, her family often joked that she looked more like a European Fox than a dog!
So when it came time to discover what breeds might be hiding behind all that cuteness, they had a few theories.
Wire-haired terrier?
Australian Cattle Dog?
Maybe a little bit of both?
The DNA results had other plans...
Foxy's MuttMix DNA Results:
• 23% Miniature Poodle
• 16% English Springer Spaniel
• 16% Boston Terrier
• 15% German Pinscher
• 15% Yorkshire Terrier
• 15% Cardigan Welsh Corgi
A Fun Genetics Fact About Foxy's Coat!
One of the biggest surprises in Foxy's results was the absence of a wire-haired terrier breed, especially given her wonderfully scruffy appearance.
But here's the fascinating part: a dog's appearance doesn't always reveal their ancestry as clearly as we might expect.
Foxy's coat texture is likely the result of several different coat traits interacting together. Breeds such as the Miniature Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier, and English Springer Spaniel can all contribute characteristics that influence coat length, texture, furnishings (the hair around the face), and overall appearance.
When these traits combine in a mixed-breed dog, they can sometimes create a rough, scruffy, or terrier-like look, even when no wire-haired terrier appears in the ancestry results.
This is one of the reasons mixed-breed dogs are so fascinating — genetics don't blend together like paint. Instead, dogs inherit individual traits from different ancestors, and some of those traits can become far more visually noticeable than others.
In other words...
Foxy may not have any wire-haired terrier DNA, but she certainly perfected the look. ❤️
And suddenly, the mystery became even more fascinating.
Because one of the most amazing things about canine genetics is that dogs don't always look like their highest-percentage breeds. Sometimes certain traits become the stars of the show, creating a completely unique appearance that nobody could have predicted.
Looking at Foxy's personality, though? The pieces fit together beautifully.
🐾 The intelligence, affection, and quick-thinking nature? Miniature Poodle and Yorkshire Terrier are likely taking some credit for that.
🐾 The energetic, people-loving side? English Springer Spaniel has entered the chat.
🐾 The confidence and watchdog instincts? German Pinscher is waving proudly from the family tree.
🐾 The charm, expressiveness, and ability to win people over? Boston Terrier knows exactly what it's doing.
🐾 The cleverness, confidence, and "I know more than I'm letting on" attitude? Cardigan Welsh Corgi all day long.
🐾 And that adorable fox-like appearance? That's Foxy being uniquely Foxy. ❤️
Alta describes Foxy as energetic, smart, affectionate, and always ready to protect her family if needed. She's cautious around strangers at first, but once she's decided you're acceptable, she'll happily collect attention and cuddles.
And then there's what might be her greatest superpower...
The cuteness factor.
According to Alta, it's completely off the charts.
Even more impressively, Foxy knows it.
And uses it to her full advantage.
After being adopted from Animal Welfare Helderberg in August last year, Foxy found exactly what every rescue dog dreams of: a family who adores her exactly as she is.
Because while DNA can tell us where a dog came from...
Love is what tells the rest of the story.
Thank you, Alta, for opening your heart and home to this extraordinary little fox-dog. We have a feeling Foxy knows she's won the forever-home lottery — and judging by your message, we suspect you feel exactly the same way.
Some dogs are one in a million.
Foxy is one in a Foxillion.
