August has shown us once again that community security is a team effort.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our current Ihawu Lethu members who continue to give their time, resources and commitment to protecting our farming community.

A special thank you goes to our security partners, who continue to work alongside us and support the Farm Watch operation. We also extend our appreciation to the Dolphin Coast Anti-Poaching Forum (DCAPF) for their assistance and continued support in tackling the poaching threat across our areas.

We know we are still a long way from where we want to be — but we have come a long way. August’s results are a reflection of what can be achieved when farmers, residents, volunteers, security companies and community organisations work together.

But we need more people to get involved.

Whether you are a farmer, live in the surrounding communities, own a business, work in the area, have security experience, can volunteer your time, or simply want to contribute — you can make a difference.

You don’t have to live on a farm to be part of the solution.

Every additional member strengthens our network. Every set of eyes and ears helps. Every vehicle, skill, resource, patrol, phone call or piece of information can contribute to keeping our community safer.

Ihawu Lethu is about safeguarding our farmers, protecting our farming industry and protecting Ballito’s back garden.

🚨 IHAWU LETHU FARM WATCH — INCIDENT UPDATE

SHOOTING / ARMED SUSPECTS — 14 AUGUST 2026

On the evening of 14 August 2026, Ihawu Lethu Farm Watch received a report of a shooting incident within the farming area. A response was immediately dispatched.

At approximately 20H49, our first responding Farm Watch unit arrived on scene and requested additional backup after receiving information that three armed suspects had been seen in the cane. At that stage, no descriptions of the suspects were available.

A second Farm Watch unit was dispatched to assist.

At approximately 23H17, an update was received confirming that one suspect had been apprehended, while a search for the remaining two suspects in the cane was ongoing.

🤝 COMMUNITY RESPONSE

When the incident was reported, a message was immediately placed on the Ihawu Lethu WhatsApp group requesting assistance.

In addition to our Farm Watch armed guards, we had assistance from our Watergate managers, as well as a number of farmers who came out to assist with the response.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who responded and assisted. It is fantastic to see our farming community coming together and supporting one another in times of need.

This is exactly what a strong community should look like — farmers, security teams and community members standing together to protect one another. 💪🤝

⚠️ SUSPECT UPDATE

Unfortunately, while the apprehended suspect was being transported to the police station, he managed to jump off the bakkie and flee.

We have obtained his details and photograph and will be investigating further to establish his identity and whereabouts, and to assist in locating him.

Ihawu Lethu remains committed to working with our farmers, Farm Watch members, Watergate managers and the wider community to combat crime and improve safety across our farming areas.

🌿 WORLD RANGER DAY | Celebrating our Dolphin Coast RANGERS!

Today, we celebrate the extraordinary people who stand between nature and those who would harm it.

The Dolphin Coast is unlike almost anywhere else in South Africa. Stretching across more than 42,000 hectares, it is a complex mosaic of public and private land, protected areas, farms, coastal forests, rivers, beaches and urban communities. There is no single organisation responsible for protecting it all.

And that’s what makes our ”rangers” unique!

Here, a ranger isn't only someone in a green uniform.

He’s the security officer responding to a poaching incident before dawn…

She’s the Ezemvelo Wildlife officer protecting biodiversity…
�They’re the SAPS members investigating wildlife crime; SPCA inspectors confiscating abused animals; the DFFE officer enforcing environmental laws; the farmer reporting suspicious activity; it’s the volunteer scouring the bush for snares; the woman rescuing an injured animal; a resident calling in a report when something doesn’t look right…

It’s the DCAPF volunteer racing out at all hours to respond to a report of poaching with few resources, but a lot of passion.

Every person who gives their time, expertise, courage and commitment to protecting our wildlife and natural heritage is part of the team that keeps the Dolphin Coast wild.

Today, the Coast Anti-Poaching Forum DCAPF proudly honours all these men and women from our security companies, SAPS, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), the SPCA, municipal and provincial authorities, conservation organisations, landowners, volunteers and community members who work together—often behind the scenes—to protect this remarkable coastline.

On World Ranger Day, we celebrate you all.

Thank you for your vigilance.
Thank you for your dedication.
Thank you for protecting the places, wildlife and communities that make the Dolphin Coast so special.

Because on the Dolphin Coast, everyone who stands up for nature is a Ranger.
