The Eclipse | Bantry Bay 🌊

MVW Engineers is proud to be working with our client, , to help bring its vision for The Eclipse to life.

Set into the steep slopes of Bantry Bay, The Eclipse comprises four individually designed ultra-luxury villas, each taking full advantage of uninterrupted Atlantic Ocean views.

Behind the architecture is a highly complex engineering solution. With the villas extending up to five levels, excavations reached approximately 19 m deep, requiring anchored shotcrete lateral-support walls.

Now that the lateral-support works are complete, construction is progressing into the foundation phase of two villas, with micropile installation now underway.

The project also incorporates reinforced-concrete shear walls, vertical rock anchors and micropiles, along with challenging cantilevered swimming pools, floor slabs, complex architectural forms and demanding load paths.

It’s a great example of how structural engineering can respond to challenging terrain without compromising architectural ambition.

Progress is steady at Klipriver Business Park, where MVW Engineers is handling the civil and structural engineering for a large industrial development.

The building is designed around flexibility — modular factory bays that can adapt as production and assembly needs change over time. Underneath it all, reinforced-concrete tunnels run along both sides and through the centre of the factory, working hand in hand with the material-handling systems above.

Long-span steel roof trusses give the factory bays their open, unobstructed floor space, while the crane beams are built to carry 20-ton overhead cranes — no small engineering feat.

It's a technically demanding project, and one that's genuinely satisfying to watch move from drawings to reality. There's something to be said for seeing a design this complex come together on site.
