Attended the Nedbank Agri Webinar Series online today and it was incredibly insightful.
We heard from AgriView with Wandile on land reform and the reality that the South African government has about 2.5 million hectares of land that still need to be allocated to deserving beneficiaries — a critical opportunity for inclusive growth in agriculture.
Johan van den Berg unpacked the impact of El Niño and La Niña on agriculture, and the data shared really stood out. Seeing how harsh drought conditions tend to occur roughly every four years puts climate risk into perspective for farmers and the agri-economy as a whole.
We also learned from Tracey Davids about the billions of rands generated through agricultural exports, highlighting how important this sector is to South Africa’s economy.
