GREAT PEOPLE ARE GREAT COMMUNICATORS.
Great leaders are great communicators. Great salespeople are great communicators. Great projects are due to great communication.
Up your communication (and especially your understanding of communication intelligence) and add value to your relationships, your effectiveness, your sales, your business, but more importantly to your net worth.
Don’t fall behind, you can never make up lost time.
Communication Intelligence refers to understanding that all people have differences in what and how they communicate. What you prefer in communication will not resonate with most people that you communicate with. Understanding how to always resonate is what communication intelligence is all about.

Thinking a sales process will get you the deal is like thinking you can manage your marriage or relationship with a process.

Why don’t you go and ask your partner, husband, or wife that you would like to manage that relationship with a process. On Mondays you talk about money, on Tuesdays you talk about work, on Wednesdays about family, on Thursdays about friends and on Fridays about emotions. So, if you are cross with your partner on the Sunday you must wait until the Friday to discuss it.
Dream on ….

Isn’t it amazing that so many companies focus on managing the pipeline and salespeople with a process? If you follow the process, you are ok, and please don’t forget to have your pipeline completed. Little time is spent on the conversations that a salesperson will have with the customer. The focus is on which steps have been completed in the sale process. If guidance is given on the sales conversations, sales success will be higher, and your pipeline and forecast will be far more accurate. Next time ask your salesperson to have the conversation with you before having the conversation with the customer.

See the graph at the end of this post. A graph of what most companies implement (left 3 bars) for the salespeople; and what customers say is there view of why they do business with a person/company (last 3 bars). Amazing the sequence is completely the opposite.

The sequence for what is being implemented:
1) Sales process
2) Know your offering
3) Communication (conversations)

The sequence what customers experience and why the do business:
1) Communication
2) Know your offering
3) Sales process

Just maybe, salespeople will be far more successful if the implementation in companies follow the experience of the actual customers that sign for the deals. Maybe more time and investment should be spent on communication/conversation development so that salespeople resonate with the customer.

Communication is the number 1 skill people need to be successful in life.

If it is that simple, why are people not doing it? Why are companies not doing it? Why are people after attending training on communication still not getting it? Why are people after reading many books not getting it? Why is good communication not happening?
3 reasons come to mind, namely:
• People want a framework for good communication to help them understand how and why communication differ for people.
• People want to know where they fit in on that framework, i.e., what is their own preference on that framework.
• Making the framework practical for daily use to be more effective in communication.
Many communication skills solutions are available in the market. Yet very few succeed as it does not address the issues mentioned above.

Since 2008 we have developed, tested, developed, tested (and many more iterations) what you will see in this book addressing the 3 points. We have termed this body of knowledge Communication Intelligence™.

In a newly published research, LinkedIn analyzed skills shortages based on data from member profiles and job postings. "Somewhat surprisingly ... interpersonal skills are where we are seeing the biggest imbalance," Jeff Weiner told CNBC. “Communications is the No. 1 skills gap.”

For change, and the areas mentioned, the world has changed in the last couple of months. Virtual communication is playing a more prominent role than ever before. In this more virtual world making sure that you get the attention and keep the attention are important to success in change. In the virtual world … 1 click and you become a podcast or just a noise factor to the recipient that might be browsing on the internet or be reading an email.
The importance of communication is critical in making change successful in the organization. Communication happens at different levels, with sponsors, with stakeholders and eventually with the people that are impacted by the change.

In this regard 2interact’s Communication Intelligence framework will be used to address this need.

Sales skills are life skills. Whether you are in IT, in engineering, getting a new job, asking for a raise, in sales, in legal, in management, or for that matter in any job.
I would like to tell a story of a group of rocket scientists, literally and figuratively. They were engineers mixed with IT specialists that built satellites, a group of extremely intelligent people. Joe, one of the participants, was sitting in the back row on the seat closest to the exit.
As I started the workshop with 28 people, I asked all what their expectations were. Some said they need to improve their communication, some said they need better teamwork, some said they want to persuade better, some said they want to influence better, one said he wants to sell better.
When I came to Joe his response was “I don’t have to be here. I am an engineer and as an engineer I don’t need this soft stuff. I am here because I was told to be here.”
It put me back a bit, but I knew he will get value.
I ran the workshop for 2 days on The Psychology of Communication. How to communicate in a way that resonates with people, i.e., how to sell any message so that people buy into it.
At the end of the 2 days, I said that it is now time for feedback from anyone. Joe who has moved a few times around in the class jumped up and said “I want to go first because I need to fix something. The last 2 days gave me lessons and skills that I was never taught before. I did a theoretical course on communication before, but this is what communication is about, this is what selling is about. I wish I did the course in the beginning of my career.” This wording came directly from his written evaluation that matched his class response.
