I do not mean that as a criticism. I mean it as a recognition of something that almost nobody outside this role ever fully understands. You arrived at work this morning already carrying yesterday. The Council meeting that did not go the way it should have. The email from a Councillor that landed at 10pm and sat in your chest all night. The audit finding that has your name attached to a decision you did not make. The Director who is not delivering and the Union that is already mobilising. The resident complaint that made it onto social media before you even knew about it.
And somewhere underneath all of that you have the quiet, persistent question that you never say out loud. Am I still the right person for this?
I want to say something to you directly and without any coaching language or professional distance. What you are feeling is not weakness. It is not incompetence. It is not a sign that you are not cut out for this. It is the completely human and completely understandable response to being one person, one single human being who is personally accountable for an entire organisation, an entire community, and an entire system that was not designed to support you.
You came into this role because you wanted to make a difference and you believed in service delivery. You had a vision for what a well-run municipality could do for real people in real communities.
That person, the one who started with that purpose is still in there. Underneath the exhaustion. Underneath the anxiety. Underneath the layers of pressure and politics and compliance and chaos. Still there. Still worth fighting for.
You deserve a confidential space to think clearly. To be heard without judgment. To make decisions from a place of clarity instead of fear. To lead calmly, not because everything around you is calm, but because you have built the inner stability that chaos cannot touch.
That is exactly what I create. DM me. Let's talk.
