New World Foundation is looking to employ a DRIVER / CARETAKER to join the Team.
This role is a dual-function position combining driving and caretaker responsibilities.
The purpose of the position is being responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods, staff, clients or services to and from specified locations. The driver/caretaker must operate vehicles in a manner that ensures the safety of staff, clients and other road users. The driver/caretaker position involves loading and offloading goods, conducting routine vehicle maintenance checks, ensuring that vehicles are always clean, and adhering to traffic laws and regulations. The individual in this role will ensure safe and efficient transportation while also managing the upkeep of the property.

Key Responsibilities:
Transportation:
• Provide punctual, timely and safe transportation for staff, volunteers, and program participants to various locations
• Follow assigned routes and schedules.
• Ensure the punctuality and reliability of pick-ups and drop-offs.
Vehicle Maintenance:
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain the cleanliness and proper functioning of the vehicle.
• Report any mechanical issues or damage to the Maintenance Manager and / or Administrator promptly.
Documentation:
• Maintain accurate logs of trips, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery/pickup times.
• Ensure all necessary documentation, such as delivery and collection notes (invoices) are completed correctly.
Customer Service:
• Interact professionally with staff, clients etc
• Address any enquiries or concerns politely and efficiently.
Safety:
• Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
• Ensure the safety of passengers and cargo.
• Use safety equipment as required (e.g., seat belts, cargo straps).
Load and Unload:
• Assist in loading and unloading goods if required.
• Ensure the secure and proper handling of goods.
Route Planning:
• Plan routes to ensure the most efficient and timely journey.
• Use a GPS systems and keep up to date with road conditions and closures.
Property Safety
• Patrol the property to ensure safety
• Report any suspicious activities
• Monitor access to the Office to ensure only authorised individuals are allowed entry
• Regularly test alarms
Qualifications:
Education
• Matric or equivalent (preferred).
Licensing
• Valid driver’s license appropriate to the vehicle type including PDP
• Clean driving record.
Experience:
• Proven experience as a driver / caretaker for at least 5 years.

Working Conditions:
• Work may involve long hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends.
• The role requires flexibility, depending on the employer's schedule and programmatic needs.
• The job may involve both indoor and outdoor tasks, sometimes under challenging weather conditions.
• Driving in various weather conditions.
• Extended periods of sitting while driving.
• Manual handling of goods.
• Additional role as stand-in security when required
Additional Requirements:
• Background check.
• Drug and alcohol screening.
• Periodic medical examinations to ensure fitness to drive.
