To the SA training community at large....
Are you aware of the fact that all unit standards-based (u/stds) qualifications expired on 30/06/2023 - and that training providers aka skills development providers (SDP's) only have until 30/06/2024 to enroll learners on any u/stds-based qualifications (for latest achievement by June 2027)? This is because SA is moving over to occupationally directed qualifications and part-qualifications. Which, in theory, seems positive. But that means that SDP's can not register new learners on these 'legacy u/stds and/or qualifications' after 30 June 2024. The challenge is that there are currently very little or no replacement QCTO occupational qualifications (OQ) to use (in comparison to the current 'legacy' ones listed on the NLRD). SO what happens from 01//07/2024 when providers can't enroll new learners, and employers won't send their employees on 'non-accredited' courses, not to mention the SDP's who are worried about conducting training that's not accredited? Added to this, companies' annual Workplace Skills Plans (WSP's) are due by 30/04/2024 - so what are many employers supposed to plan for, if there are no new occupational qualifications that are relevant to them? I believe that this is a huge concern across a wide range of industries.
It seems that there is a very small group of legislative decision-makers in the know, and they are not providing feedback to the stakeholders that this is impacting on. At the very least, stakeholders need to be guided on the way forward, and told what to do from 1 July 2024, to keep our businesses afloat.
