On 9 August 1956, approximately 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the extension of Pass Laws and the Urban Areas Act. The march became a defining moment in South Africa’s struggle for freedom and equality.

Today, we honour them and wish all South African women a happy Women’s Day.

FoodForward SA plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition in South Africa by recovering quality surplus food and redistributing it through a national network of vetted Beneficiary Organisations serving local communities.

Their work responds to connected challenges: reducing food waste, addressing food insecurity, and strengthening a food redistribution model that can support skills, livelihoods and work opportunities. It also shows how environmental and social value can be connected through credible, well-governed systems.
