Our logo is a typewriter, but not just any typewriter…

It’s a sketch of Grandpa Carl’s original 1950’s Smith Corona typewriter, which he used to write the “Whobodies” story that inspired our entire brand. You knew it was his typewriter because the letter “o” never quite aligned. We brought that into our logo and brand font as an intentional touch, as well as if you zoom into the typewriter icon, you can read the original story on his typewriter — keeping his legacy as it was left 💌

Meet our skin contact Viognier, our showstopper, the one that started it all… the “Pagliaccio”!

The 2025 vintage in Tulbagh was a hot one, and this wine is not afraid to show off its body. Two weeks natural skin fermentation, basket pressed, and settled in older barrel. Nutmeg and floral notes show on the palette, with juicy orange peel phenolics balancing the higher alcohol, making this the perfect food wine.

Story time… Pagliaccio is Italian for “clown,” and this wine is an ode to the two goofy Italians ( + ) we worked the ‘24 harvest with, where they originally experimented with skin contact Viognier. It turned out so beautiful that we bottled it after they went home to Italy, then made it again this year in their honor.

Mattia and Federico, thank you for strip-dancing on punchdown sticks at 11pm to bring a laugh and get the team through the harvest. The memories of you calling everybody “Pagliaccio” and acting like feral zoo animals when we had cellar visitors will forever be engrained in our hearts ❤️

Meet the “What The Blanc” — otherwise known as our “what the f*ck” wine, the wine we were never supposed to make, our 1 barrel experiment that turned out so delicious we can’t stop drinking it…

Two weeks natural skin fermentation, basket pressed, and settled in older barrel. This Sauv Blanc and its pastel orange hue is equally elegant and cheeky, playing between black currant and peach flavors. The texture is smooth and refreshing with subtle tannins.

Honorable mention for co-creating this wine with us, believing in it from the get-go, and teaching us the British word “quaffable” which describes this wine best. Your vibes are forever imprinted in this wine.

Label design notes: This wine was accidental, and we want to personally thank the safety clip of the industrial crane for breaking. If it wasn’t for your metal pieces falling into the Sauvignon Blanc grapes that were about to go into the press (which we couldn’t find until later), we wouldn’t have had the chance to experiment with a skin contact, WTF wine.

Officially introducing… Whobody Wines!🍷Founded by Tristan Human and Kara Lee, partners who fell in love as travel-winemakers during a harvest internship.

We combined our passions, talents, and creative hands to start our own label right here in Cape Town crafting small batch wines with distinct personalities and stories to tell. They’re wines you want to get to know.

The name “Whobody” is a homage to Kara’s storytelling grandfather who coined the term. His most famous story titled, “Whobodies,” opens with, “Whobodies aren’t just anybodies. Whobodies are special.”

In our inaugural vintage, we have the Pagliaccio (Skin Contact Viognier) and the What The Blanc (Skin Contact Sauvignon Blanc)… and trust us, they’re Whobody Wines, not just anybody wines.
