Madam Waste is an urban energy planning startup focused on implementing urban biogas and the circular economy. It has been operational for three years mainly executing renewable energy advisory and business development mandates ~ for the purpose of lifting stones today. Madam Waste adopts a consumer-centric and tailored approach for each project. Services offered span across urban planning, organic waste management and decentralised clean energy.

We want your food waste! Not because we are being greedy with leftovers, but because access to clean organic material helps complete the circular story 💚.

When events, restaurants and caterers separate at source and enable food waste collection, they are not only diverting material from landfill. They are also supporting our Waste Valorisation Demo Site to showcase practical and real material, real processes and real learning.

That means more live demonstrations. More tangible experiences. More people seeing how food waste can move from “bin problem” to compost, biogas potential and circular value.

Waste diversion cannot be solved by infrastructure alone. It needs people, partnerships and practical systems that work on the ground.

Social enterprises have an important role to play in helping public and private sector organisations reduce waste, improve separation at source, create local livelihoods and keep valuable materials in circulation.

For municipalities, this can strengthen community-based diversion models. For businesses, it can support ESG goals, landfill diversion and more inclusive circular economy value chains.

Organic material is one of the most beautiful and versatile waste streams we work with.

It cuts across the value chain; from food systems, agriculture, retail, hospitality and events, to energy, composting, soil health, packaging, logistics and circular enterprise development.

For Madam Waste, this is why industry associations matter.

Through platforms such as SABIA, ORASA, CSA, ACEN, the Event Greening Forum and the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa, we continue to see how organic material is being celebrated, showcased, researched, advocated for and transformed through innovation.

These platforms remind us that organic waste is not just “waste”. It is a resource stream with real potential to support climate action, circular economy solutions, job creation, enterprise development and more responsible production and consumption.

At Madam Waste, we believe that today's youth are tomorrow's decision-makers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and environmental champions. That's why we actively engage learners, students, and young professionals through:

- Circular Economy Education – helping young people understand how waste can be transformed into valuable resources.

- Composting Demonstrations – showing how organic waste can be diverted from landfill and returned to the soil as a valuable resource.

- Biogas Education – showcasing how food waste can be converted into renewable energy and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
