Are you creating content for your business, or are you just feeding social media algorithms for free? 📱👇

Four months ago, I built a Social Media Content Planner to stop the last-minute scramble. I wanted a clear, 31-day system to track content types (Educational, Promotional, Engagement, Behind-the-Scenes), set monthly goals, organize hashtag groups, and write captions in advance.

After testing it on my own business and with my hairdresser's salon Ethnic Tangles Hair and Nails Salon, we saw great results, but the biggest lesson wasn't just about scheduling. It was about how money actually flows from social media.

Here is what every business owner needs to remember:

Views & Followers are platform metrics (vanity metrics). They mean people saw you, not that your business made money.

Experts vs. Creators: Creators compete for attention. Business owners and experts compete on value and solutions.

AI boosts productivity, not revenue. It helps you make content faster, but it won't fix a broken sales process.

Daily posting isn't a strategy. If you don't have a clear path moving social followers into your own "income systems", you are working for the platform for free.

Sorting out your posting schedule is Step 1. Building a system that actually converts those views into revenue is Step 2.

Ready to take control of your content and your pipeline?

1️⃣ Step 1: Download the customizable Social Media Content Planner on Etsy to get your monthly strategy organized.

Most entrepreneurs do not fail because they lack ambition or market access. They fail because they get the very thing they prayed for: growth, only to realize their operational backbone cannot support the weight of it.

Yesterday, I pitched to a virtual room of over 70 small business owners at a COMESA Federation of Women in Business B2B Market Linkage session spanning Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Eswatini, hosted by the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs in Kenya.

The session opened with powerful grounded wisdom from Erik Obwaka on the true art of networking. His advice was clear:

• Stop coming to extract value. Come with a value proposition.
• Prepare 1-minute, 3-minute, and 10-minute pitches so you are never caught unprepared.
• Go beyond exchanging numbers, listen deeply and show genuine interest in the other person's vision.

When we transitioned into break-out rooms, I had the grace and privilege of being nominated by six incredible women from Kenya, Mauritius, and Zimbabwe to facilitate our session. The group comprised travel and tourism operators, an executive leadership coach, and myself, a systems practitioner dedicated to helping MSMEs build the operational and financial frameworks needed to scale sustainably.

During our exchanges, one founder asked me about the digital tools I created now available on our e-commerce platform (see link in Bio).. Instead of listing features or talking about spreadsheets, I anchored our discussion on the actual problem: formalization, documentation, and bankability.

Then, I posed a question to the room:

"We are all here seeking new markets and bigger contracts. But if you received an order for 1,000 units today, or a surge of new clients in your tourism business tomorrow, could your operations handle it efficiently? Have you built the systems to scale, or would the influx break your business?"

The room fell quiet. The silence was followed by a collective, candid realization: "That is a heavy question... we aren't quite ready, but we'll figure it out."

That quiet pause is where transformation happens.

Whether transitioning from micro to small, or medium to large, the pattern never changes. Market expansion requires structure, supply chain efficiency, and operational flow. If you do not fix the leaks in your vessel, more water will only sink the ship.

We must hold space for our big visions while doing the humble, practical work of building systems that honour that growth. Before you pray for wider gates, ensure your foundation can bear the weight of what is coming through them.

Is your business built to sustain the growth you are actively seeking?

Stock variance isn't just a daily waste; left unmanaged, it drains profit margins and weakens operational control across multiple sites or franchise locations.

If you're tired of playing the guessing game with kitchen losses, get the exact framework to trace root causes automatically.

Search "Variance Decoder' at hangaconsulting.etsy.com (Link in bio).

NB: This isn't just a spreadsheet, it's an operational governance tool designed for multi-unit operators, franchises and commercial kitchens to standardize accountability.

This is not a subscription-based service; it's once-off infrastructure investment.

Pricing That Undervalues Your Own Labour

"Why is it so hard for us women to talk about money, even at our kitchen teas, high-teas, women-only gatherings?" It's a question I keep hearing echoed by women business leaders across the region, and it always sticks with me.

Social conditioning. We're born into a society that shapes us, consciously and unconsciously, into what's "acceptable" and that conditioning ends up forming our mental models: the values, assumptions and beliefs that shape how we engage with the world around us.

Women are socialised not to talk about money, markets, investments that language is coded too masculine. Instead, we're taught to compete with each other on beauty, brains and boys as early as childhood. Is it any wonder we grow up competing on price instead of value? We don't even cost our own time, because our self-limiting beliefs tell us not to put a price on it. No formal education system can undo what years of social conditioning has done to our psyche. Despite networking, mentorship, peer-to-peer support and stakeholder management, we still forget or struggle to value our own time.

We need to reframe what "true cost" pricing actually looks like. That's the work I've been doing with MsBee Group Travel, supporting 25 women on their China Business Immersion trip, all at different stages, from idea to validation to early revenue. I bring simple, targeted operational and financial tools that help any business idea come to life instantly.

Pricing your product wrong is one of the fastest ways to kill a business. Charge too little and you work for nothing. Charge too much and nobody buys.

Your true cost is your landed cost. Add your desired markup, and you get your recommended selling price and profit margin, no guesswork, no spreadsheet gymnastics.
