Residents Raise Concerns Over Meat Theft During Ancestors Rituals and Funerals
Residents in the community are raising serious concerns about people who steal meat during important cultural gatherings such as ancestors rituals and funerals.
According to residents, when families perform traditional rituals that involve slaughtering a cow or goat to honor their ancestors, some individuals take advantage of the situation and secretly steal portions of the meat.
One resident shared an incident involving a group of Basotho community members who were performing an ancestors ritual. After the cow was slaughtered, the family noticed that the tongue of the cow was missing. The tongue is considered an important part of the animal during traditional ceremonies.
A clever elder reportedly realized something was wrong and began asking questions. Community members mentioned that the last person seen with the tongue was a certain man. When he was searched, the missing tongue was allegedly found in his possession.
Residents say this is not an isolated incident. Some people claim that during funerals, certain individuals—sometimes even women—are seen secretly taking meat meant for mourners and the family and hiding it to take home.
Community members say this behavior is disrespectful to grieving families and traditional rituals, calling on people to respect cultural practices and stop stealing food during sacred and emotional gatherings.
Some residents are now urging communities to monitor food preparation areas closely during such events to prevent further incidents.
😳 What do you think? Is this becoming a serious problem in the community?
