Okay, so your long-distance best friend is visiting, and the guest bedroom has to impress. You take out the fancy linen set you keep in case a celebrity ever needs a place to crash.
But the despair sets in when you see what was meant to be crisp white is now buttery yellow.
You throw it into the machine with litres of bleach, only for it to come out even yellower! What sorcery is this?
Bleach is a fickle friend, especially when it comes to fine white linen. Bleach reacts badly with body oils, which can turn the fibres yellow.
Sunscreen is a real doozy too! This skin protectant does nothing for your linen, so rinse quickly before bed.
Don't store your linen in plastic or wood crates, so it can breathe and wood oils don't pe*****te the fabric.
Try a two-step approach:
Half a cup of baking soda to start the wash.
Half a cup of white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment or during the final rinse with cold or lukewarm water.
And if all else fails and you need to replace it, we've got your back.
