I investigated this in 2007 and 2014 and it was already then recommended that the road be closed.

Health and safety always should come first in any investigation, including Geotechnical investigations. Never be complacent.

Rampant illegal mining in the area around Lily Mine – and the failure of the police and the Department of Minerals, Resources and energy to combat it – contributed to the fatal 2016 collapse.
