βοΈ Snow and Icy Conditions Advisory | Gauteng and surrounding areas
Widespread snowfall is possible across all provinces, including Gauteng, from Sunday 9 August to Tuesday 11 August. Forecasts can still shift, but disruptive travel conditions are a real possibility over the long weekend.
With Monday 10 August a public holiday, a lot of people will be on the road between 8 and 10 August. If your route runs through high-lying or usual snowfall areas, this is worth planning around, not reacting to once you're already stuck.
A few things worth doing before you leave. Check the latest weather and road conditions before departure. Delay non-essential travel if conditions turn severe. Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and fueled up. Pack warm clothing, water, food, any prescribed medication, and a fully charged phone. If law enforcement or emergency services direct a closure or diversion, follow it, not your GPS.
The Gauteng Provincial JOC is asking road users to plan ahead, build in extra travel time, and share only verified information, not every clip that lands in a group chat.
