There's quiet truth about visibility vs. value

For a long time, I thought if I just explained a tool clearer, gave a little more time, or offered one more free consultation, the sales would follow.

I was wrong.

Across my Etsy store (48 digital products) and Amazon KDP (3 products), the numbers started telling a story I couldn't ignore:

70% of my Etsy sales come from organic reach on the platform, people who have never engaged with my social media content. They see the tool, recognize its value instantly, and buy.

My repeat buyers are primarily based in the US and UK.

My lowest sales conversion comes from a local market where business owners will easily spend $250+ on a bottle of ch*****ne in a club, but hesitate to invest $30 into tools that transform their daily business operations.

I spent hours offering free 15-minute consultations, face-to-face coffee demos, and endless follow-up messages. The products are affordable. The target audience was technically "right." But the outcomes were always the same; endless loops, excuses, or requests for free work.

Here is the lesson I’m taking forward with grace:

It isn’t always your product, and it isn’t always your messaging.

Sometimes, people are simply the wrong clients for you because they are looking for value without investment. They want the results, but they want the tools for free.

The right client doesn’t need to be persuaded, coddled, or convinced through five follow-up calls. They already understand the value you create. They respect your effort, honour their own time, and make the decision to invest in their growth without friction.

Stop exhausting yourself trying to convert audience members who only value your free energy. Save that bandwidth for the quiet buyers who appreciate your body of work the moment they discover it.

There is a quiet, unspoken lie floating around social media that needs to be called out:

The idea that "Instagram" is for 'people with money' and "Facebook" is for 'broke people.'

It sounds silly when written down, but for many, it subtly impacts how they feel about themselves every single day.

Here’s the truth: A social media platform is just software with a different layout. It is not a measurement of your net worth, your intelligence, or your worth as a human being.

Why this lie is so damaging:

1. Instagram is built on curated highlight reels. People post their best angles, their filtered vacation photos, their leased cars, and their carefully styled meals. Comparing your everyday real life to someone’s curated 10-second reel will make anyone feel like they’re falling behind.

2. Facebook is built on connection and raw community. It’s where family groups, local buy-and-sell networks, neighbourhood alerts, and real-life conversations happen. It’s grounded in real life, not perfection.

3. Equating platform choice with financial status tricks us into feeling like "losers" if we don't fit into a certain visual aesthetic or lifestyle mold.

The reality?

Plenty of people on Instagram are living on credit and struggling behind closed doors.

Multi-million-dollar business owners, thriving entrepreneurs, and brilliant minds actively use Facebook every single day to build real communities, run groups, and drive massive impact.

Social media apps are "tools", not status symbols. You are not "less than" because you prefer one platform over another, and you are certainly not a loser for choosing real connection over polished perfection.

Don't let an algorithm or someone else’s highlight reel, tell you what your value is.
