Paarden Eiland has experienced an increase in vehicle jamming incidents over the past two months. As part of a joint initiative between PECID, Law Enforcement, and SAPS Maitland, free vehicle-jamming warning signs were once again distributed today to businesses in the affected areas.
These signs are intended to raise awareness and serve as a reminder to anyone stopping in these streets to remain vigilant, ensure that their vehicle is properly locked, and avoid leaving valuables or goods inside their vehicle.
Through increased awareness and cooperation, we aim to reduce opportunities for criminals and help protect both the public and local businesses from becoming victims of vehicle-related crime.
PECID would like to extend its sincere appreciation to SAPS Maitland and Law Enforcement for their continued support and assistance in this initiative.

On Saturday morning, 16 May, the PECID controller was monitoring the CCTV cameras when she observed two males walking across the N1 Highway in the direction of Wessex Street. The suspects were carrying white 25-litre plastic containers and gained access to the area by climbing over a fence. Once inside the area, the suspects proceeded to a business premises in Wessex Street, where a truck was parked behind a steel palisade fence. They reached through the fence, opened the truck’s diesel tank, and began siphoning diesel into the white plastic containers. Control immediately dispatched patrol officers to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers observed the suspects fleeing back towards the N1 Highway, where a white minibus taxi was waiting for them. Although the suspects had managed to siphon diesel into two 25-litre containers by the time patrol officers arrived, they were unable to remove any stolen diesel from the scene. PECID would like to commend the control room staff for their vigilance and sharp observation, which directly contributed to the prevention of the crime. PECID would also like to alert the public and local businesses to remain vigilant regarding incidents of this nature. With the continued increase in fuel prices, it is anticipated that attempts to steal fuel may become more frequent. Businesses are therefore encouraged to ensure that their properties are properly secured and that vehicles, fuel tanks, and other valuable assets are adequately protected.

During the past week, several dangerous weapons were confiscated in Paarden Eiland. Regular night operations in the area, during which suspicious individuals are monitored and approached, have resulted in these weapons being removed from the streets.
PECID would like to remind business owners and members of the public to be mindful of what they throw away, as discarded items can easily be converted into dangerous weapons.
A huge thank you goes to our patrol officers for putting themselves in harm’s way to help keep the area safe.
