Status of the Green Industry Report
by SAGIC (South African Green Industry Council) October 2020
Document Compiled by: Bernadette Eksteen

Some concerns that influence/impact on the Green Industry are:
-Skills shortages in the industry;
-Climate change;
-Lack of marketing of the landscape architectural profession.

What is holding the Green Industry back?
-Sustainable growth and investment in terms of the poor economy at present;
-Aspects relating to the Environment:
-The drought of recent years;
-Inability currently to provide water for irrigation from potable water grid requiring the infrastructural cost of alternate water sources such as boreholes, well points, rainwater harvesting
-General awareness and education is needed around the Green Industry in terms of who we are and what value we offer.
The Green Industry has a significant role to play in the future resilience of the urban, rural and natural environments and communities of South Africa.
It has the potential to create numerous sustainable initiatives that in turn can create job opportunities at a wide range of skill levels and across diverse professions, occupations and trades”.

Roggebaai Canal Tourism Precinct Cape Town
One of the design briefs for this project was for a train platform to accommodate the Blue Train
Had to go to Metrorail Infrastructure and Rolling Stock offices in Salt River, obtain copies of the original S.A.S - S.A.R platform coping details, still drawn by hand.
Used details to draw specification for the manufacturing of the copings, had copings installed and finally seeing the Blue Train arriving and departing from the platform
