I love Trail Running!
I love the physical effort, the scenery, the variety of terrain, the unexpected and sometimes unmarked paths, the views, the sounds of nature, the call of birds, the river crossings, the mud, sand, dirt and sweat you get covered in, the boost of post-run feel-good hormones, but - most of all - I love the analogies and inspirational thoughts that come to mind when I am out there.
I recently completed the tough 12km trail through the Hilton College Private Game Reserve and at the bottom of the valley, we passed this example of tenacity and strength. I often admire trees and their unique bark and growth formations but this one made an impact that has stayed in my mind since.
🌟 How hard was it for this tree to grow on top of this rock?
🌟 How long did it take for those roots to find their way to the ground they needed for nourishment and support?
🌟 How many human lifetimes or years has this been standing strong?
I stopped and admired it, taking a few photo's and making a mental "note to self" - obstacles are not insurmountable! All it takes is consistency and determination, realising one small success at a time until the goal is reached. Motivation, support, encouragement and plans are all wonderful but without the action, we go achieve nothing.
Just Do It, adopt GETMO and make it happen, and you can adjust as you go if necessary.
