Happy Mother’s Day ♥️

Thank you to everyone who signed the Health Coalition Aotearoa petition to save the school lunches programme Ka Ora, Ka Ako.

Thanks to those who shared our posts on social media and wrote to MPs and talked about how hungry kids cannot learn.

David Seymour – who has been intent on making cuts to the programme — said last night the programme is going to be funded for “immediate few years”.

We know the work isn’t over. There is now a review planned, and there are murmurings of a charity-based, targeted, “E number” packaged-food approach.

We’re going to continue to ask you to use your voice to ensure a universal approach that uses fresh, healthy, whole food is the answer. We will keep sharing the evidence and research to back this up.

We know one in five New Zealand children live in homes where food runs out. Taking care of our children is the right and compassionate thing to do.
