Taung Gold in partnership with Umsizi: Building Communities Before Mining Begins. Long before a single ounce of gold has been mined, Taung Gold has already been investing where it matters most in people. Through a well-structured Social and Labour Plan (SLP), Taung Gold has built real relationships and laid a foundation of hope, development, and opportunity in the surrounding communities. Our new video highlights the incredible impact of putting people first, showing what can be achieved when mining companies take a proactive, responsible, and community-driven approach.
🎥 Watch the video and see how Taung Gold and Umsizi are building stronger communities even before mining begins.

Building/expanding businesses from grassroots level 🌱

There was much excitement (and quite a few nerves) as participants in the Taung Gold Business Growth programme presented their business expansion plans to a panel of judges. Up for grabs are Business Development Assets to kickstart meaningful business growth and expansion.

The participants really showed up and stepped up!

Great representation from the youth and women in Nyakallong and Kutlwanong.

Well done to all involved. The evaluations continue, and those successfully meeting the criteria will be awarded with much needed and researched assets. Watch this space for the outcomes!

History Makers: THEN and NOW
Before the historic march on this day in 1956, omama uCharlotte Maxeke, uKatie Makhanya, uCissie Gool and many others were already fighting against unjust pass laws.
There are so many omama who are unsung heroes. Before the march, during the march, and after the march, they stood and are still standing firm.
Today, as we remember the history makers, we celebrate all women. Whether in the kitchen, the school room, the boardroom, my one room, emikhukhwini, elokshini, emakhaya, kae kapa kae. “We are present, and we are here.”
Our voices must be heard. But not only that, let us act. Let us move this country forward.
Umsizi is taking that step forward with many unsung heroes in our country.
Thousands of brave women are working tirelessly to change the course of their further and their children’s future.
By participating in Umsizi’s empowerment programmes, ordinary women are becoming history makers - freeing themselves from poverty, building sustainable livelihoods and businesses, and taking action against gender-based violence.

To you we say “well done! We are proud of you!”.

Enjoy your day, Imbokodo!

Today, the Umsizi team is participating in the Rustenburg Thuthuzela Care Centre Day of Learning, a strategic gathering led by the Department of Justice and Department of Health, in partnership with the Minerals Council, Glencore, Sibanye Stillwater, Harmony Gold, Seriti, and others. The Thuthuzela Care Centre housed by the National Prosecuting Authority of Department of Justice.

Representing Umsizi, CEO John-Mark and Mama Estelle are engaging with sector leaders to strengthen collective efforts in supporting survivors of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

Through our Social Renewal Programme, and in partnership with Sibanye, Umsizi is advancing a community-based GBVF response. Our approach is rooted in dignity, restoration, and sustained systems change. When communities are equipped, survivors are supported. When partnerships are strong, transformation is possible.

PREPARING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE – GBV YOUTH OUTREACH

Today, at the Umsizi offices - the hub where much of the planning and coordination for community impact takes place - our dedicated volunteers from Northpoint City Church, The Way learnership programme and our amazing senior volunteers gathered to prepare 300 lunch packs and finalise everything for tomorrow’s big event.

For the team, today is a day of excitement and anticipation, of compassion and unity as we get ready to welcome and empower the youth of Zandspruit.

From packing meals to praying over the outreach, we are standing together to say: No to GBV!
