SUN CITY TO HOST GBVF AWARENESS RUN ON 16 DECEMBER.
RUSTENBURG — Runners and community members will come together at Sun City Resort on 16 December for the Sun City Against GBVF Grace 2026, an event aimed at raising awareness and taking a stand against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
Held under the theme “Run • Unite • End GBVF”, the event will use running and community participation to promote solidarity in the fight against violence against women and children.
The event will start at 07:00 and will feature a 10km race and a 5km fun run. Participants in both events are encouraged to wear all white, symbolising unity and a collective commitment to ending GBVF.
Entry for the 10km is R190, while the 5km fun run costs R110, with an entry fee of R80 for participants aged 60 and above.
Organisers have also announced prize money of up to R2,500, while all finishers will receive medals.
Adding to the excitement, the first 100 participants in the 10km race will receive a sports bag and white cap.
The event is positioned as more than just a road race, with organisers calling on residents, families, runners and supporters to use the day to stand together against GBVF.
“Together we run for safety. Together we end GBVF,” is the message behind the event.
With December 16 also marking Day of Reconciliation, the event is expected to bring together people from different backgrounds around a shared call for safer communities and an end to gender-based violence.
