She is not only running for herself.

She is running for every cat rescued, every life saved, every feral colony managed through TNR, and every animal finding safety through the work of Harties Feral Cat Rescue and Uitkomst Cat Sanctuary. ❤️

The roads have been travelled. The training has been done. The sacrifices have been made.

Now comes the feeling every Comrades runner knows — that mix of excitement, anticipation, nerves, gratitude, and quiet reflection as race day draws near.

Today, Ernestia finds herself surrounded by the energy of Comrades. Thousands of runners. Thousands of stories. Thousands of reasons why.

Yet her reason remains beautifully simple.

The cats.

Every kilometre she runs on 14 June helps support the cats in the care of Harties Feral Cat Rescue and Uitkomst Sanctuary.

From abandoned kittens to injured strays, from frightened ferals to cats finding safety and love for the very first time — this journey is for them.

This Sunday, Ernestia Brummer takes on one of the greatest endurance challenges in the world — the 2026 Comrades Marathon Up Run.

85.777 kilometres.

A journey that will test body, mind and spirit.

But what makes Ernestia’s journey so special is not only the distance she is about to cover. It is the reason behind every step.

Over the past weeks, Ernestia has chosen to use her Comrades journey to create hope for animals who cannot speak for themselves. Through her fundraising efforts, she has helped shine a light on the work of Harties Feral Cat Rescue and the cats of Uitkomst Sanctuary.

At HFCR, we know that rescue is not a sprint. It is thousands of small acts of kindness, repeated day after day.

In many ways, Comrades is much the same.

One step.
One kilometre.
One act of courage.

🎨🐾 Art for a Cause – Supporting Community Cats 🐾🎨

We are incredibly grateful to a talented local artist who has chosen to support Harties Feral Cat Rescue through an upcoming art exhibition this weekend.

A percentage of all artwork sales will be donated to HFCR, helping us continue our vital work sterilising, feeding and caring for community cats throughout the greater Hartbeespoort area.

Every painting sold will help fund food, veterinary care and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts, making a real difference in the lives of cats who depend on us.
