In the 1960s, Frans Malan brought home a lesson from Bordeaux that would change Simonsig forever.

French oak barrels, with their subtle yet powerful impact, were introduced to our winemaking process. This decision wasn’t just about flavour; it was about creating structure, about crafting a wine with age, depth, and complexity.

The use of French oak is now integral to the Simonsig style—a timeless technique, passed down through generations, refined and perfected over the years.
