If it is your desire to be a lawyer, please go for it!
I graduated from UNISA, people said so many things about UNISA, they tried to talk me out of my choice of career back then, I was told things like;
"There are too many lawyers around town, you don't stand a chance with most employers if you don't complete your degree from schools like UCT, UP, WITS, among others".
I was told my age is going to be a disadvantage by the time I start looking for articles.
They made it worse when they said i have to graduate with good grades to be considered for employment, pupillage or articles etc.
Oh yes, some of what they are saying might be true but my response and attitude was;
"Screw these, I am following my gut, when I get to the river, I will find a way to cross it. I was like, so flipping what if I don't graduate from the top tier schools 🙄".
You see, if I bought into all the negativities around the study of law as a career, i would not have come this far. There will be no motivational blog like Fatola Law anywhere. Just check the testimonials and the inspiration on this page. Some are LLB Graduates and Attorneys today because of the energy they drew and are still drawing from this page.
I will say, if you believe you have a calling for law, forget the naysayers and take your shot.
Success in this career is not about where you graduated from, it is largely about the passion, the heart, and the drive you have in you for this noble and dignifying profession.
My take is, no matter how saturated anyone feel this career is, to those who have the heart and passion for it, there will always be a place for them to thrive and stand out.
P.S - To everyone contemplating on not showing up for the board exam next month, you have paid for those papers, please go and write them. I understand the internal conflicts you are presently dealing with, I went through the same, and I'm sure almost everyone who had written and passed these exams felt like giving up at some point. These kind of feelings are normal, but don't let them cloud your sense of reasoning.
