HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY !
Authentic independence is our power.
This Women’s Day, I have been thinking about what it really means to be an independent woman.
For me, independence is not about standing alone.
It is about being authentically independent.
It is living a life where you take ownership of your decisions and actions while remaining true to who you are. A life shaped by your own values, experiences, perceptions and choices.
Every woman has her own journey.
That journey creates strength where there once seemed to be no hope, courage through times of struggle, and peace when it is finally time to rest.
It makes us unique.
And yet, somewhere along the way, life can teach us to put that uniqueness aside.
We adapt to the norm.
We listen to the voices telling us who we should be.
We compare ourselves to other women.
We question whether we are good enough, successful enough, strong enough, or whether we simply fit in.
But our authenticity is not something we need to overcome.
It is where our power begins.
When a woman is comfortable being authentically herself, she does not need another woman to be smaller for her to feel bigger.
There is room for different opinions.
Different choices.
Different lives.
Different definitions of success.
That is the kind of independence I want our young women to see.
Especially those looking at life through the dull lens of rejection, failure, “not being good enough” or “I don’t fit in.”
I want them to see women who show them:
It is OK to be different.
It is OK to have your own opinions.
It is OK to choose your own path.
It is OK to learn, change, fail, grow and try again.
And it is OK for another woman’s path to look completely different from yours.
Because authentic independence does not divide women.
It creates unity without conformity.
It allows us to work with one another rather than against one another. To celebrate another woman’s strength without questioning our own. To disagree without judgement. And to create opportunities for the women coming behind us instead of expecting them to become versions of us.
Perhaps one of the greatest examples we can give our young women is simply this:
Be the woman you are meant to be, and give other women the freedom to do the same.
We are women.
Different. Individual. Imperfect. Powerful.
And authentically independent.
Happy Women’s Day.
