It's Monday. A reminder that every success story starts with a small step.
When Hygienestep started in 2020, I didn't have a big workshop, expensive equipment, or a large team. What I had was a vision, determination, and a belief that hygiene should be at the center of footwear care.
Many people saw dirty sneakers as just shoes that needed a quick wash. I saw something different. I saw the importance of hygiene, presentation, confidence, and taking pride in what you wear every day.
The journey has never been easy.
There were days when customers were few. Days when I had to learn through trial and error. Days when I had to pick up and deliver shoes myself, often going the extra mile to make sure every customer was satisfied. There were challenges, sacrifices, and moments when giving up would have been the easier option.
But every pair of shoes that came through my hands taught me something. Every customer who trusted me helped build the reputation. Every compliment, referral, and returning customer reminded me why I started.
Along the way, I expanded my services, formed valuable relationships, served runners, workers, professionals, and sneaker enthusiasts, and continued refining the cleaning methods. I learned that cleaning shoes is not just about appearance, it's about hygiene, care, and extending the life of something people rely on every day.
One lesson that shaped my journey came from a simple observation. Years ago, a grandmother noticed me cleaning sneakers and politely asked, "Why don't you wash them underneath as well? Then they would be completely clean." A small comment planted a seed that would influence my approach forever. Today, thorough cleaning from top to sole is part of my commitment to hygiene.
From Pretoria West to new communities, through every challenge and every milestone, Hygienestep has continued to grow because of hard work, consistency, and the support of the customers.
As we begin another Monday, we are reminded that success is not built in a day. It is built through thousands of small efforts repeated day after day.
To everyone building a dream, facing challenges, or starting from humble beginnings, keep going. Progress may be slow, but every step counts.
Just like a clean pair of shoes, it starts with one scrub. Every great business starts with one step.
