Corsetry & silhouette made the power moves here and we loved every minute of creating it. 🤍At Hanrie Lues Bridal we specialize in authenticity.🤍Hand-made creations, intentionally sewn by real people. When you commission a bespoke garment from our studio, you are directly impacting the lives of real artisans & creatives. Our team is small, but that is why our lead-times are extended. This kind of construction deserves the luxury of time. Nothing is being mass-produced in a Chinese factory. Not one aspect of what we do can be described as ‘fast fashion’. We understand that there is a place for budget-friendly imported Shein wedding dresses, but respectfully, that place is not where we exist. Our clients understand the value of investing in a couture designer piece of artwork, ethically crafted to represent a bride as individual as every hand-sewn stitch. The influx of cheap Chinese wedding dresses may have made it more accessible for budget-conscious brides to get a dress for under R5k, but it has also affected many local designers & seamstresses negatively. Here at HLB, we would like to stay ethical, intentional and keep an industry alive that support real women in the community, with skills development and job creation. A seamstress doesn’t just fall out of a tree… it takes years of training, experience and opportunity to cultivate their skills. No one starts at the very top. Our local fashion industry has suffered wildly because of cheap imports, we are doing our part (however small) to fight back.

Hand-made cascading flower detail, adorned this asymmetrical duchess satin gown. The cheeky side-slit added some hidden drama to the dress and helped with movement. Inner boning & cups ensured that this bodice had maximum support.

INVITED DESIGNER COLLECTION 2026.
🌾From the first rough sketches, to hand-dying most of the fabric, to making braids from scratch, mixing corsetry with draping…. 💜This collection was just as much an experimental project as a tailoring one. 👌
The concept for the collection draws from a character that I created in my mind, that could guide my design choices throughout the process. A young American aristocratic girl in the early 1800’s, arrives in an uncharted part of the country, ready to embark on a frontier adventure with her family. They set off to make their own way in this wild part of the land, to eventually settle and build a homestead. During this epic journey of a lifetime, our young heroine discovers parts of herself she never knew lay dormant beneath the layers of buttoned up corsetry. She sheds layers of constraint, along with layers of restrictive clothing, out of survival and necessity. As the relentless Wild West pushes her to her limits and forces her to confront the spirit of freedom and rebellion within her. They come across danger, battles, natives, nature & heartbreak…. But What eventually emerges is a rock of a woman, bold and strong. Fearless and free. Emancipation personified.

Classic, minimal & oh so elegant, bespoke for Kath 🥹🤍🥂

This dress featured pure white duchess satin throughout, with a hand-appliqué lace veil to finish off the look perfectly. The bodice consisted of corset structure for ultimate bust support.
