MSMEs may be small in size, but their contribution to the economy is enormous. As highlighted by the UNDP Country Representative, International MSME Day serves as a reminder of the critical role MSMEs play in shaping economies around the world. Collectively, MSMEs contribute approximately 70% of employment and 50% of global GDP.

What does this mean for us? It reminds us that growth cannot happen in isolation. To thrive, we need strong partnerships, networks, collaboration, and access to financing. Working together creates opportunities for innovation, expansion, and long-term sustainability.

This year's International UNMSME Day theme, "Formalize, Finance, Flourish: Building a Resilient Zambian Economy," highlights the importance of creating an enabling environment where businesses can grow and contribute meaningfully to national development. This includes access to market intelligence, financial literacy, capacity building, knowledge sharing, value chain development, and stronger collaboration between government, development partners, financiers, and business networks.

As MSMEs, we have a vital role to play in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and building resilient communities. By embracing formalization, strengthening our capabilities, and working together, we can unlock greater opportunities for sustainable growth.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development for its continued support to MSMEs, and to the organizers of the MSME exhibitions at Makeni Mall for providing a valuable platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services.

Our gratitude also goes to UNDP, Zanaco, SEC, Makeni Mall Management, and all our development partners and stakeholders whose unwavering support continues to empower MSMEs, foster innovation, create jobs, and contribute to Zambia's economic transformation.
