Whether you’re new or seasoned, no one is immune to office politics. These guidelines help you remain grounded, trusted, and respected in the workplace.
𝟭. 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀
Gossip erodes trust. Stay professional and avoid conversations that involve judging or exposing others.
𝟮. 𝗕𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗼𝗺 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁
Not everyone who smiles at you is your friend. Build trust slowly and intentionally.
𝟯. 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀
This can easily be weaponized against you. Keep feedback about leadership strictly professional and only where appropriate.
𝟰. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱
You can’t please everyone, but be wise—avoid unnecessary conflicts, especially with influential stakeholders.
𝟱. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹
Not every battle needs words. Silence protects you from over-explaining, oversharing, and unnecessary conflict.
𝟲. 𝗗𝗼 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸
In other words: avoid unnecessary displays of wealth or privilege. Humility goes a long way.

Money mixed with work relationships often leads to tension or embarrassment. Maintain financial boundaries.
𝟴. 𝗕𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
Be someone colleagues can comfortably talk to. Approachability builds collaboration and trust.
𝟵. 𝗕𝗲 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹
Develop a signature strength—reliability, innovation, problem‑solving, communication, etc. Let people associate you with value.
𝟭𝟬. 𝗗𝗼 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 “𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿” 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀
Avoid negative fame—lateness, gossip, insubordination, poor conduct. Let your excellence—not your behavior—stand out.
𝟭𝟭. 𝗕𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱‑𝗨𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳
Be dependable. Deliver on time. Keep your word. Reliability is power.

Do not wear the same shirt or dress Monday through Friday. Professional appearance influences perception, confidence, and respect.
