In accordance with ISO 31000, Risk is defined as the effect of uncertainty on objectives. From a traditional perspective of effects, we normally look at the downside (i.e. a potential loss), however, even the upside of effects such as a potential opportunity should also be considered. therefore Risk is Probability * Impact. Probability is the likelihood of an event happening while the impact is the consequential change that would cause a shift in the routine mode of operation of an entity.

Good evening colleagues,
As the year is still new, I bet it's a great time to start taking action on those plans that you have for the year.
Decisions have to be taken and with every decision, a new stream of risks is unearthed. For success to be attained in relation to those goals and objectives, an in-depth understanding of managing the risks that one faces is vital.
An understanding of the types of decisions that one has to make takes precedence at this level. Is the decision under conditions of certainty? And when we say, certainty! How is the future? Is the decision under conditions of uncertainty or under conditions of risk? And what state of nature are we looking at in relation to the aforementioned decisions, or maybe the decision is under conditions of ambiguity?
