Before a fly lands on your kitchen counter, where has it been? 🪰

It could have been in a bin.
In a drain.
On waste.
Or even in faeces.

Then, moments later, it lands on the surface where you prepare your food.

Flies can move between waste, drains, contaminated areas and food, potentially carrying harmful microorganisms with them.

That’s why fly control isn’t just about keeping your home looking clean. 🧼

It’s about stopping what flies can carry from making its way onto the surfaces — and food — your family relies on.

This Food Safety Month, keep an eye on the places that attract flies and take action before they become a problem.

Keep flies out. Keep food safe. 🏠🍽️

A line of ants across the kitchen counter is easy to wipe away. 🐜🐜🐜

But that doesn't answer the important question:

Where are they coming from?

Ants can travel through contaminated areas before reaching food preparation surfaces or stored food. So removing the ants you can see doesn't necessarily address the source of the problem.

Don't just break the trail.

Find out what's creating it: https://www.thespecialists.co.za/ant-control-3/

Happy World Food Day!

Every meal starts on a farm. Before it reaches your plate, it passes through storerooms, trucks, factories, shops and kitchens. At every step, it needs protecting from pests and contamination.

That's what we've done for 48 years: protect food from farm to mouth.

Today we celebrate the farmers and communities, like Tosca, who grow our food, and everyone who keeps it safe along the way.

Termites don't need to announce themselves to cause damage.

They can quietly work through timber and other cellulose-based materials while remaining hidden from view. Then one day, you notice:

🔎 Mud tubes
🪵 Damaged timber
🚪 Doors or windows suddenly sticking

By then, the activity may have been going on for much longer than you realised.

The earlier you spot the signs, the sooner you can investigate what's happening behind them: https://www.thespecialists.co.za/contact-us/

Bed bugs are remarkably good at staying out of sight, finding hiding places in mattresses, 🛏️ bed frames, couches, cracks and crevices.

When conditions are favourable, their activity can become more noticeable.

The tricky part? Seeing one doesn't always tell you how big the problem is.

A quick spray may deal with what you can see, but effective bed bug management means looking beyond the obvious and addressing where they're hiding.

If you thought cockroaches were already making themselves comfortable, October may give them even more reason to move around. 🪳

As temperatures rise, cockroach activity can increase, and the problem isn’t just that they’re unpleasant to see.

Cockroaches can move between kitchens, bins, drains and other contaminated areas, potentially spreading microorganisms onto food and surfaces.

So when one makes an appearance, Sazi Knows it’s worth asking: why is it here in the first place?

Warmer conditions can create more favourable conditions for the activity and reproduction of many common pests.

With the predicted heat surge, you may start noticing more🪳 cockroaches, 🐜 ants, 🪰 flies, 🦟 mosquitoes, 🐭 rodents than normal, and during food safety month, that matters even more.

Food preparation, storage and serving areas should never become part of a pest's daily route.

🪳 Food safety is a shared responsibility, and pest prevention is part of it.

Food goes through many hands before it reaches your kitchen. Once it gets there, how you store and protect it from pests becomes your responsibility.

Cockroaches, ants, flies and rodents can contaminate food, food-contact surfaces and storage areas, potentially introducing harmful microorganisms into your kitchen.

This Food Safety Awareness Month, take a closer look at your home:

🔹 Are dry goods stored in sealed containers?
🔹 Are cupboards kept clean and free from food crumbs and residue?
🔹 Is spilt food cleaned up quickly?
🔹 Is your bin sealed and emptied regularly?
🔹 Are there cracks, gaps, or other entry points pests could use?
🔹 Have you noticed droppings, gnaw marks, insects or other signs of pest activity?

You may not control every step food takes before it reaches your home, but you can help protect it from pests once it gets there.

Good food hygiene includes keeping pests away from the food your family eats. 🧼🍎🪳

Termites and ants… enemies? Yes. 🐜🪵

But when it comes to your home, they have something in common. They both want in.

Spring brings warmer temperatures, increased activity and ideal conditions for ants and termites to forage, establish nests and search for food and moisture.

Ant trails, alates, mud tubes, discarded wings or tiny holes in timber? Don’t ignore the signs.

They may be enemies in nature, but you don’t want either one making your property their home.
