STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Movement for Patriots condemns in the strongest terms the violence caused by the UPND cadres today and recently in some parts of the country particularly in Southern, Central and Western provinces. We only have one country to live in and we can’t afford to set it on fire because politics. Politics must be about ideas and if we want to fight we must do so through the ballot and not through violence and intimidation. How is UPND going to serve the very country that they want to put on fire?
We therefore appeal to the republican president to call his party to order at the same time we appeal to the Zambia Police to exercise professionalism in curbing the violence and quickly arrest those thugs regardless of the political affiliation they belong to.
We also call upon the Electoral Commission of Zambia as a referee to ban the UPND immediately if they mean well for the this country. If this was done by the opposition, they would have quickly instituted punitive measures. The campaign timetable was issued by ECZ and each political party knows when they are supposed to be in each province. As far as we are concerned, UPND was not supposed to conduct campaigns Western province except NRPUP. Why are they following NRPUP? Their motives are well know. They are doing this to instill fear in the electorates with intent to cause voter apathy and to disrupt vote protection.
We also call upon the church mothers bodies, the church and the clergy to condemn this evil act.
As Movement for Patriots our values are patriotism, National Unity, Integrity and Respect for Rule of Law call upon our political leaders at all levels to be patriotic to the nation of Zambia. If you are patriotic and love this country, you cannot engage in violence, corruption and other evil acts that can have an adverse effect on Zambia.
