Job Title: Treasury Accountant
Location: Southern Province
Job Summary
The Treasury Accountant is responsible for managing cash flow, banking, debt, and foreign exchange activities for large-scale mining and power operations. The role ensures accurate treasury accounting, effective liquidity management, and compliance with IFRS, Bank of Zambia regulations, and industry-specific financial requirements. The position supports high-value transactions, capital projects, and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Cash, Liquidity & Funding Management
- Manage daily cash positioning for mining or power plant operations, including high-value supplier and fuel payments
- Prepare detailed cash flow forecasts covering operating, capital expenditure (CAPEX), and debt servicing requirements
- Monitor working capital needs, including inventory, fuel procurement, and contractor payments
- Support funding requirements for plant maintenance, expansions, and capital projects
Treasury Accounting & Reporting
-Record and reconcile treasury transactions, including cash, loans, overdrafts, project finance facilities, and guarantees
-Account for interest, bank charges, and foreign exchange gains/losses
-Prepare month-end and year-end treasury journals and reconciliations
-Maintain loan amortization schedules, covenant calculations, and security documentation
Banking & Debt Management
- Manage relationships with local and international banks and lenders
-Support management of project finance, term loans, and revolving credit facilities
-Monitor compliance with loan covenants and reporting obligations
-Coordinate bank confirmations and lender reporting
Foreign Exchange & Risk Management
-Monitor and account for foreign currency exposure related to fuel imports, equipment purchases, spare parts, and offshore contractors
-Support FX transactions and hedging activities in line with Bank of Zambia regulations
-Perform foreign currency revaluations in accordance with IFRS
Compliance & Controls
-Ensure compliance with IFRS, Bank of Zambia exchange control requirements, and internal treasury policies
-Maintain strong internal controls over cash, bank accounts, and payment approvals
-Support internal and external audits, including donor, lender, and regulatory audits
-Ensure proper documentation for cross-border payments and FX transactions
Management Reporting & Analysis
-Prepare treasury reports including cash flow, debt position, FX exposure, and interest costs
-Provide treasury support to budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
-Analyze treasury-related variances impacting operational and project costs
Required Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
-3–6 years’ experience in treasury accounting, finance, or audit, preferably in mining, energy, or heavy industry
-Strong understanding of IFRS and treasury accounting principles
Skills & Competencies
-Strong analytical, reconciliation, and financial modeling skills
-High attention to detail and ability to manage large-value transactions
-Advanced MS Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
-Knowledge of project finance and capital-intensive operations
-Understanding of Zambian banking systems and Bank of Zambia regulations
-Ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 operational environment
Preferred Qualifications
-Professional qualification or membership with ZICA (CA Zambia, ACCA, or equivalent)
Experience with foreign exchange hedging and multi-currency environments
- Exposure to mining royalties, power purchase agreements (PPAs), or fuel supply contracts
Reporting Line
- Reports to: Finance Manager / Head of Finance
