TOP ZNBC JOURNALIST FACES 25 YEARS IN JAIL FOR CYBER CRIME
MACPHERSON Mukuka, a celebrated journalist accused of recording a private meeting is expected to appear before court soon after being formally charged and arrested under the new Cyber Crimes passed by UPND government.
According to a report by Kalemba published on July 23, 2026, MacPherson Mukuka, 37, has been charged with Prohibition of Recording a Private Conversation Without Prior Notice, contrary to Section 10 of the Cyber Crimes Act, after allegedly recording a private meeting without notifying those involved before the audio was published on the Earth Television Zambia page.
Zambia Police Service spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the alleged offence was committed between July 14 and July 17, 2026.
โIt is further alleged that the conversation was recorded without giving prior notice to the persons involved and that the recording was later published on the same page,โ Chilabi said.
Police said investigations into the matter have been concluded, leading to Mukukaโs formal charge and arrest.
Chilabi added that the journalist remains in police custody and is expected to appear before court soon.
According to the Kalemba report, Mukukaโs arrest follows his detention last week after police launched investigations into the viral audio recording, making the case one of the first to test the recently enacted Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
