Chongwe pupils collapse after classroom “gassing” leaves 13 hospitalised

THINGS got tense at Matipula Secondary School on Friday morning after a classroom “gassing” incident left 13 female pupils hospitalized, forcing teachers to swiftly evacuate learners as panic swept through the school.

The visibly shaken teachers, who acted within minutes, rushed into the classroom after pupils began collapsing shortly after walking out of the room one after another.

The incident, which occurred between 09:30 hours and 10:00 hours, was later reported to the Zambia Police Service as malicious administration of a suspected noxious substance.

Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the matter was reported by a 43-year-old male teacher of Chongwe Township acting on behalf of the school administration.

According to Chilabi, two female pupils were first seen walking out of the classroom before collapsing shortly afterwards, followed by a third pupil who also went down moments later, prompting immediate evacuation of all learners.

“It is alleged that two male pupils, aged 17 and 18, sprayed a suspected noxious gas substance into a classroom where pupils were present,” Chilabi said.

And no sooner had the incident occurred than teachers confirmed a suspected gassing situation and rushed to evacuate the entire classroom to prevent further exposure.

The two male pupils were later identified and apprehended and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Chilabi further reported that a third male pupil suspected of supplying the substance fled the school premises immediately after the incident, which has led police to launching a manhunt to trace him.

A total of 13 female pupils were taken to Chongwe District Hospital for treatment, with eight discharged while five remain admitted in stable condition.

Police officers who moved in swiftly recovered a bottle believed to contain the substance, which has since been secured as an exhibit pending forensic examination.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Decided to quit active politics.
And do other duties that comes my way.
Sorry to those who had trust to lead them again.
My advice to the electorates choose wisely don't just choose because you are given salt, beer and money, ligaria and bola.
Choose right candidates.
I will also choose someone whom is deemed fit to represent people in the chamber.

MAFINGA SOUTH – On Wednesday, May 20, at exactly 11:30 AM, just 800 meters from the nomination center, my campaign vehicle was violently attacked by a gang of thugs wearing UPND regalia. They smashed the windows and windscreen while hurling insults and death threats at me and my team.

I have waited until today, Friday, May 22, to issue this statement — not out of fear, but to let the record speak for itself. And the record is damning.

Let me be clear: the driver behind the wheel at that moment was none other than the known driver of Robert Chabinga — the sitting Member of Parliament.
Now, here is where the system mocks us all. Arrests were made — yes. But within four hours, every single perpetrator was released. Four hours. Not four days. Four hours.

What does that tell you? It tells you that sureties were on standby before the crime was even committed. It tells you that this attack was not spontaneous — it was planned, rehearsed, and insured against consequence. The criminals knew they would walk free before they ever lifted a stone.
Today, those same perpetrators are as free as someone celebrating a graduation. They are walking the same streets, breathing the same air, likely plotting again. And we, the victims, are left waiting to be told when this case will even begin. No date. No urgency. No justice.

This is not law enforcement. This is a choreographed cover-up.
I condemn the Government of the Republic of Zambia for treating political violence like a minor inconvenience. When suspects are arrested and released within hours, when sureties appear like magic, when courts cannot give us a start date — that is not a failure of procedure. That is an endorsement of impunity.

Robert Chabinga has shown you his true colors. Not a leader but a tyrant who uses state capture to shield his thugs. No wonder the primary elections went against him. The people of Mafinga have already rejected him. Now he wants you to vote out of fear, not choice.

To the people of Mafinga South: I am with you. I will not back down. I will not be silenced. And I will not pretend that four-hour justice is justice.
And to Goliath strutting with his pre-arranged sureties and his released goons: remember, there is always an end to Goliath.

DISABLED MAFINGA WOMAN FEARS MISSING ELECTIONS DUE TO BROKEN WHEELCHAIR.

As political campaigns officially begin tomorrow ahead of the August 13 general elections, some vulnerable citizens are worried about whether they will manage to cast their votes.

In Mafinga District, a 66-year-old woman living with a physical disability says her broken wheelchair has left her uncertain about participating in this year’s elections.

Losent Namwai said she was able to register as a voter while she still had access to a wheelchair, but since it broke down, she has struggled to move around, including travelling to the nearest polling station.

Ms. Namwai has appealed to well-wishers for assistance with a new wheelchair and other basic needs to help ease the challenges she is currently facing.
