Urgent statutory notice from the Minerals Regulation Commission.
All exploration, small-scale and large-scale mining operations in Zambia must comply with the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) requirements by 30 August 2026 - that is approximately 34 days from now.
What you must do:
- Submit an Environmental Audit Report prepared by 2 independent accredited environmental consultants
- Report must cover mine closure and rehabilitation costs
- Submit 6 hard copies plus electronic copy to the MRC
- Make EPF contributions based on the demand notice
Penalties for non-compliance:
- Monetary fines and sanctions
- Licence suspension or revocation
- Prosecution with possible imprisonment
Good news - EPF contributions are refundable upon satisfactory site rehabilitation.
