*YECODE (YOUTH FOR ED) NATIONAL ADVISORY TO ALL PROVINCES*
*RE: 2026/27 EL NIÑO INDUCED DROUGHT - CLIMATE PROOFING OUR PROJECTS*

*Good Morning Leadership and Members,*

Following the official forecast released by the SADC Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-33) and our Meteorological Services Department (MSD), we wish to advise all our members as follows:

The 2026/27 rainfall season is predicted to be *below normal with erratic onset* due to a strong El Niño. This means late rains, prolonged dry spells, and high temperatures are expected across Zimbabwe and most of Southern Africa.

As an organization that supports Vision 2030 and youth participation in agriculture, all provinces are advised to:

1. *Delay planting* until we receive effective onset as announced by MSD. Avoid planting with first deceptive rains.
2. *Promote Pfumvudza/Intwasa* - conservation agriculture with mulch to conserve moisture.
3. *Prioritize drought-tolerant crops* - small grains (sorghum, millet, rapoko) and short-season maize varieties.
4. *Water harvesting* - repair weirs, drill boreholes, and conserve water in all our youth projects.
5. *Livestock* - destock early, preserve feed and secure water points.
6. *No burning of crop residue* - keep mulch for fields.

Let us work closely with Agritex Officers, MSD and our local leadership.

We faced droughts before and we survived. With planning, we will survive this one too.

: His Excellency, President E.D Mnangagwa, has assented to constitutional amendment bill number 3. The amendment is now part of the law. The Chief secretary to the President and Cabinet has made the announcement.

*Leadership*
YECODE was founded in 2022 by *Cde Edmore Nyabadza*, who currently serves as National Chairperson. A native of Mutare, Manicaland, Cde Nyabadza attended Chikanga Primary School (1998–2004), St Dominic’s High School, and completed his A-Levels at Avenues Educational Center in Harare. His vision for YECODE was shaped by the need to create platforms for youth to directly contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation.

*Engagement*
YECODE works alongside government, private sector, and other affiliates to advance youth empowerment. The organization maintains an active presence in Harare and engages youth nationwide through programs, updates, and community initiatives.
