Dubai becomes major hub for second-hand iPhone market.

Dubai: It’s not just the brand new iPhones that are flying off the shelves; there has been an increase in the sale of second-hand devices too.

Apple Retail Stores across many part of the world have always had a trade-in programme to help customers who wish to trade in their old iPhones for reuse or recycling. Customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone in the form of “Apple store gift card” so that they can use them for buying a brand new iPhone.

The trade-in, refurbishing, and resale of the iPhones are all conducted by many e-commerce portals, Sunstrike, PCS Wireless and Brightstar, etc.

After the value of the iPhone is determined, users can accept the deal and the phone data will be wiped right in front of the user.

In the last two years, Ahmed Ashraf, former general manager of Brightstar Mena, told Gulf News that the volumes are moving faster than it used to and Dubai has become a “major hub” for second-hand phone market.

Poll predicts UAE business conditions will improve in 2017.

A poll has revealed that 60 per cent of the public believes that business conditions in the UAE will improve in the next year.

Just under one in two respondents, 48 per cent, had a positive outlook on the future of the UAE economy.

Those figures are according to survey conducted by Bayt.com in association with YouGov.

“While the region as a whole has seen a relative dip in consumer confidence, future expectations amongst respondents remain positive and bright,” said Suhail Masri, VP of Employer Solutions, Bayt.com.

UAE shoppers spent $1.64b on beauty products in 2015

UAE and Saudi Arabia combined comprise a quarter of the entire Middle East and African beauty and personal care market, which had a retail value of $27.1 billion in 2015.

Consumers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia spent $6.85 billion on beauty and personal care products last year, with spending in the two countries set to rise eight per cent to reach $7.4 billion in 2016.

The retail value of the beauty and personal care market in Saudi Arabia was $5.21 billion last year, while in the UAE shoppers spent $1.64 billion on beauty products, figures released by analysts Euromonitor International show.

In Saudi, the lion's share of sales in 2015 went to fragrances ($1.7 billion), followed by haircare ($697 million), skincare ($635 million), and colour cosmetics ($503 million). That trend followed in the UAE, with shoppers spending $423 million on fragrances, $258 million on haircare, $168 million on colour cosmetics, and $165 million on skincare.

The two countries combined comprise a quarter of the entire Middle East and African beauty and personal care market, which had a retail value of $27.1 billion in 2015, growing 5.4 per cent over 2014. That comes as the Middle East and Africa overtakes Latin America as the world's fastest growing beauty and personal care market, with its estimated 4.8 per cent annual growth rate between 2014-2019 almost twice the global average of 2.6 per cent.

The vibrant regional market will be underlined by more than 1,450 exhibitors from 60 countries at Beautyworld Middle East 2016, the region's largest international trade fair for beauty products, hair, fragrances and wellbeing.

Dubai increases parking charges in select zones

The amended tariff rates for parking on the side of the street include Dh2 for 30 minutes, Dh4 for one hour, Dh8 for two hours, Dh12 for three hours and Dh16 for four hours.

Parking fees in Dubai have been revised, according to a resolution issued by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

The resolution outlines a new tariff for select controlled public parking areas. The resolution aims to encourage the use of public transport within the area covered by the amended tariff while also increasing the generation rate in controlled parking facilities.
