An ammonium nitrate emulsion (ANE) road transport collision and explosion on the Bruce Highway south of Gladstone 30 August 2024. Head on collision between a light vehicle and a B-double ANE tanker with tragic results.
Accident occurred after 5:00am and a fire resulted in an explosion around 10:00am this morning. Bruce Highway closed for an extended period bringing back memories of the accident at Angellala Creek, near Charleville on 5 September 2014, almost 10 years ago.
No doubt Resources Safety and Health Queensland will be investigating this latest accident which comes less than two years after a very similar incident in Western Australia on 24 October 2022. This latest investigation will make interesting reading - ANE transport is not usually expected to result in an explosion.
