Some founder lessons can’t be learned from a business book.

We asked our founders one simple question:

“What is the founder lesson you learned the hard way?”

You don’t have to know everything.
But you should understand your business.
You don’t have to carry everyone.
But you do need to protect your energy.
And when things don’t go as planned, what you’ve invested in yourself , your skills, knowledge and experience , stays with you.

The business isn't the only thing you're carrying. ❤️

Payroll. Clients. Deadlines. Decisions. And people depending on you.

For many founders, the pressure doesn't end when the working day does.

There are worries you don't always share, decisions you have to make alone, and days when you feel you need to have everything under control.

But being a founder doesn't mean you have to carry everything yourself.

Sometimes, asking for help, having an honest conversation, or simply taking a break is exactly what you need.

This World Mental Health Day, a reminder to everyone building a business:

Check on yourself too.

30 September has passed. But was it your Corporate Tax deadline?

Not every UAE business has the same filing date.

Your Corporate Tax return is generally due within 9 months from the end of your tax period, along with payment of any Corporate Tax due.

For example, if your financial year ended on 31 December 2025, your filing deadline was generally 30 September 2026.

And claiming Small Business Relief doesn't automatically mean there is nothing to file. Eligible businesses generally still need to file their Corporate Tax return and elect for the relief, subject to the applicable conditions.

When does being liked start costing your business?

It’s a question that opened a much deeper conversation at Founder Spotlight.

Dr. Katherine , explored the pressure we put on ourselves to meet other people’s expectations.

And around the table came five different perspectives:
Gautam - Sometimes saying no means saying yes to yourself.
Lucy - You cannot build a business trying to please everyone.
Nizren Being liked and being a good leader are not always the same thing.
Tanea - Trying to be someone else can come at a cost. Be yourself.
Taqua - Respect also means having healthy, clear boundaries.
Different perspectives, but one reminder:
You can build relationships without losing yourself in the process.

For founders, that can be a difficult lesson to learn.

Starting a business in the UAE?

Don’t let the first question be: “How much is the license?”

The cheapest package today may not be the right setup for where you want to go tomorrow.
Before choosing, ask:

What exactly will I be doing?
Will I need visas?
Can I open the right bank account for my business?
Will I need an office later?
What happens when I renew, add activities or grow my team?

Because setting up is only Day One.

The better question is:
“Will this setup still make sense when my business grows?”
