What are Gated Categories on Amazon?

Amazon wants to offer the best buying experience to its customers and for that reason, Amazon has additional security measures in the categories where sellers could easily misrepresent the product. Hence, Amazon has two types of Gated Categories and these categories do have their own rules and regulations.

1- Category Gates- This category requires Amazon’s approval for sale. Products in this category need to be approved by Amazon first, only then you can list them. Amazon might require performance checks, additional fees, and certain other qualifications in order to approve gated products. Some Gated products of 2020 are major appliances, automotive and power sports, beauty, health and personal care, toys, etc.
*In order to ungate category you must have original invoices from the distributor or the brand.

2- Brand Gates - Some “Brand Restrictions” might exist in ungated categories, which means you won’t be allowed to list some specific brands in ungated category. For example, brands like apple, bose, etc. And ungating specific brands is usually difficult as brands might charge you a monetary fee or you may need to develop a bond with them first.

Sellers who use FBA pay fees to store their products in Amazon’s fulfillment centers as well as for Amazon’s world-class fulfillment services.
