If you asked me to pinpoint the processes where most companies accidentally expose themselves to risk - I would tell you there are two which every company on earth has in common:
1. On-boarding staff (new hires)
2. Off-boarding staff (terminated or leaving staff)
Why?
Because in these processes you are either laying the groundwork for how the new staff approach their job, or being sure that you have closed the loop on every area where they had responsibility at the time of their separation from the business.
A separated employee with a grudge can sink you quickly if they still have access to company accounts, online resources, etc.
Of course there are many elements to this issue - but one of the best ways to get a new employee the necessary access and then remove it, is to use a credential manager with the ability to share access between specific employee groups.
We have a particular tool that has worked well for this scenario for years - this week, Matthew Sayles wrote an article on our blog sharing some best practices and the tool that works well in our global small business environment as well as multinational enterprises.
These tools streamline communication, improve productivity, and enhance collaboration among team members. However, with the increasing reliance on these platforms, security concerns have also grown. Two popular methods for securing access to team platforms are Single Sign-On (SSO) and Passkeys.
