I scroll through Instagram too and see all the glamour shots, beautiful layovers and sometimes you could be forgiven for thinking corporate aviation is basically a holiday with a uniform.

I know what’s happening outside the photo though.

The shopping. The running around town. The cabin that needs cleaning after a night flight. The beds that need putting away and everything that must be ready for the next flight.

I’ve watched trainees experience this for themselves once they make the move and it’s one of the biggest differences between what corporate aviation looks like online and what the job involves.

I think this is one of the biggest things airline crew
underestimate when they start looking at corporate aviation.

You can be brilliant at your airline job and still arrive in corporate aviation and think, “Hang on... who’s actually organising all of this?”

There isn’t always someone handing you the catering.

You may be going to supermarkets or restaurants, dealing with catering companies, checking orders and making sure what arrives is what your client expects.

Then the flight finishes and the job isn’t necessarily finished.
You’ve got the cabin to clean, dishes to wash and everything to get ready for the next flight.

And if you’re on duty, you’re on duty.

There isn’t a familiar airline structure around you with someone to turn to every five minutes.

That’s why understanding the actual lifestyle and responsibility of the role matters so much before you make the move.

It was never that airline crew can’t do it.
