Recently, I watched Andy Lau’s new movie "A Gilded Game", and there was one line that really resonated with me:
“Finishing a project is performance. Avoiding risk is performance as well.”
This line makes perfect sense in the software industry—especially for software testing professionals.
Many companies only measure success by whether a product is delivered on time.
But truly mature companies evaluate how well they identify and control risks.
We all know this, yet it’s often overlooked:
A failed deployment can crash the entire system.
A hidden bug can cause a security incident or even a brand crisis.
Even a seemingly “working” feature can waste a company USD$1.5 million per year.
(Yes, I actually found such a bug once. It was fixed.)
For a QA team, finding issues and preventing them is performance.
It might not be as visible as developing a product, but it saves the company from countless disasters and unnecessary costs.
Being able to anticipate and block risks in a complex environment—
that’s the true professional value of software testing.
一個錯誤的部署,可能讓整個系統掛掉;
一個隱藏漏洞,可能導致資安事故或品牌危機;
Bug)
