The Global Service Jam 2018 is now behind us, and what an amazing Jam it has been! With each Jam we feel like we are reaching new heights, and here we are once again – Jammers and Hosts all over the world have outdone themselves. They have impressed us, moved us, inspired us and each other with their energy, creativity and originality.
What an amazing feat! With a staff of none and a budget of almost nothing, the Global Service Jam is easily the biggest gathering of service innovators on our planet in one weekend: with more than 80 locations across six continents, a wide spectrum of experience levels and an energetic and inspiring team of volunteers who make it possible.
This Jam we saw the Jammers really get hands-on with service creation: inspired by our Jam mantras of "doing, not talking", "show, don’t tell" and “think with your hands". We’ve been delighted by sparks of creative energy expressed through dance breaks, impro-theater, laughter and colourful props to enact service delight. This ability to combine fun and focus kept us going strong to make the most of our ‘48 hours to change the world’.
And we’ve had lots of new highs this jam, as you can see on our media wall (https://walls.io/i58yj). Our biggest ever Jam took place in Riyadh with 160 people jamming in one location. And we welcomed many brand new locations to our jam, like Phnom Penh and Liverpool. We also had live broadcasts from around the world on the Service Design Show – a wonderful way to show the world the connectedness of our family of Jammers. We increased the reach of our community to new places, new social media platforms and new people. We are so happy to meet familiar faces that continue to inspire us Jam after Jam, and to welcome more Jammers to our growing movement!

DAY 3! Is this an automated event? No, this is what happens when the speaker and social media person are one and the same 😁 I conducted an intro to gamestorming workshop at - here's what you need to know👇1. Gamestorming is a set of innovation tools that make any meeting more productive! Think of a strategy session, marketing brainstorm or a status and review meeting. 2. Each 'game' just takes 15-20 minutes, and can help with creative thinking, prioritizing projects and evaluating new ideas. DAY 2! Today, I attended an event that focused on how gamification can change the education sector across all levels, from primary schools to MBA programs. What is gamification exactly? Think of it as fun, interesting games that help you take your theories and book-learning and put it into practice. We were given a real-world simulation to get a feel for how this works. Things I learned 👇 1. Groupwork does work! Working in teams increases peer pressure and competition, as well as collaboration within the team, all of which accelerates learning. 2. There is real merit in learning by doing as a philosophy. I can still remember the details of the case study we were given 3 hours ago! Overall, a fantastic event. If events had ratings, this would be a 9/10 (not least because of free pizza courtesy ) Over and out! #3030

DAY 1! To kickoff this series, I attended the first Shopify meetup in the UAE, hosted at - for those of you wondering what Shopify is, it's the e-commerce platform Kylie Jenner used to sell out her ENTIRE cosmetics range in 7 minutes! Things I learned👇
- Shopify is more than just an online store. They have a 'Buy Now' button that can be integrated into your page and blog, letting customers buy directly from these avenues. - Shopify can help with marketing too! They recently acquired an app called Kit that tracks your website data and provides suggestions on what should be put on sale, and how to optimize social media channels.
Overall, it was a decent event but would have loved to hear more from the Shopify team who didn't get too much stage time (in my humble opinion). Props to for her humorous bits between speakers. Over and out! #3030
